The Ruby Slipper Benefit
Save the Date! The next Ruby Slipper Event: There's No Place Like Home is Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Evanston Golf Club. The annual fundraiser helps SASI, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, maintain affordable fees for services.
Nothing captures SASI's celebration of older adults quite like this annual event, which honors efforts to continue living at home despite challenging circumstances.
Highlights of the 2010 Event, held on October 17 at the Evanston Golf Club:
- Helen Heyrman was this year's Event Honoree for her lifelong professional and personal work on behalf of older adults. A former SASI board member, Helen is the recipient of over 30 awards in the field of aging, including two Governor's Awards for Excellence.
- Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen, Event Honorary Chair, presented the Caregiver of the Year Award to a SASI caregiver, who, according to her client's son, "makes mom's life a life worth living."
- Live and silent auctions, raffle drawings, cocktails, and a dinner program make for a festive evening.
